Latin America News Review

This blog is intended for those who want to read press articles that contain unique insights --as well as information that is often hard to find-- about Latin American politics, economy and society. I compile news articles on a regular basis and occasionally include my own analysis. Comments are always welcome. I hope people find this site useful.

"uncoupling from the wagon of death"

LOL gotta love Chavez's flourish, his propensity to call a turd a turd.

I remember sitting in an undergraduate poli-sci class on geopolitics and Africa (this was 1994). In that class the pure insanity of structural adjustment really hit home. This system is a disease, condemning people to death and immiseration. I was actually somewhat shocked that my fellow students were pretty much un-fazed by it. No, they wouldn't or couldn't justify it--but they accepted it. The prof was a rightwinger. I tried to get the guy to read a recently published Chomsky book but he begged off. I thought that was interesting.
