Latin America News Review

This blog is intended for those who want to read press articles that contain unique insights --as well as information that is often hard to find-- about Latin American politics, economy and society. I compile news articles on a regular basis and occasionally include my own analysis. Comments are always welcome. I hope people find this site useful.

When even this guy expresses doubts about the dominant ideology of economists, neoliberalism is in trouble

Excerpts from report:

PRAGUE, Czech Republic - The man credited with toppling communism in Czechoslovakia says the global economic crisis is a warning not to abandon basic human values in the scramble to prosper.

...

"It's a warning against the idea that we understand the world, that we know how everything works," [Vaclav] Havel said. "It's a warning against the pride of economists who think they understand everything and have the whole world scientifically mapped out."

Havel is such a lame ass--consistently, the man has sided-with capital over labor, the empire over democracy.

His 'fame' points up the degree to which propaganda and class domination is integral in the European system.

That he gets points for pointing out the obvious--that, ultimately, if an economic system doesn't advance the well being of all people then it is worthless.

Justin, this election has brought home to me the degree to which humans can be brainwashed.

For example, how man US folk have even appraised themselves of John McCain's biography, the good and the bad. Rolling Stone as an excellent article out right now--and I would bet you that only twenty percent of the people that will vote McCain will ever read his full biography from a non-Republican source.

It is clear to me that what is called 'capitalism' is harming the health of our planet and human society. There are ample facts and peer reviewed studies to back this up--yet the slaves will simply not be swayed by any of it. Amazing.

Right now I am listening to Michael Parenti's latest lecture. Yeah, not much different than his usual, but it really is quite interesting when he lays out the basics of how corporate capitalism works in the US.

What is stunning right now is how close the pres race is given McLame's horrendous adgenda, and the 'maverick' lies that are being promulgated. This couldn't be the case in a semi-healthy society. Only in the US...blah, blah, blah.
