CARACAS, Venezuela – President Hugo Chavez on Friday said Venezuela should bring to justice those responsible for violently putting down riots 20 years ago in Caracas.
Chavez blamed the government in power at the time and said Venezuela "should make greater efforts to search for justice."
"I'm asking them to review the whole thing," Chavez said in a speech to commemorate the February 1989 riots known as the "Caracazo."
At least 300 people died in the unrest on Feb. 27 and 28, 1989, provoked by a hike in gasoline prices and public transportation fares. Some activists put the number killed at hundreds more...

For those of US who were there (i doubt Justin was there, ut of course knows more than all of us who actually lived through this), there as one single responsible for all this ...HUgo Chavez Frias.I agree, an investigation should be conducted and the micomandante put back in jail, where he belongs. Had it not been for Caldera, who out of hatred for Carlos Andres (as if he cared, he lives in NYC with all the money he stole) released the monkey and you know the rest of the story.

I remember that day clearly, my father was stuck at work for 3 days and as there were no cell phones at that time, there was no way to contact him unless he called. He finally made it home safely. It was scary times.
Who is this dingdong blaming Chavez for the Caracazo? Please, as someone who "was there", explain to us how Chavez caused these riots and the subsequent police massacre 10 years before he was elected.
