Venezuela's Consul General in San Francisco cogently dispels propaganda against Chavez government

Forum with Michael Krasny

August 11, 2009

[Editor's Note: On the radio program Forum with Michael Krasny, Venezuela's Consul General Martin Sanchez debates the anti-Chavez author Brian Nelson. Nelson cobbles together a mountain of misleading anecdotes in attempting to malign the Chavez government, but Sanchez does a pretty good job of refuting the propaganda barrage. As I've noted previously, Nelson has made statements that call into question his ability to formulate reasoned political judgements in accordance with basic democratic norms. For example, Nelson told Francisco Toro that the coup leader of Venezuela's failed putsch of 2002 was the "logical choice" to replace Chavez.]

No offense to Martin Sanchez, but he does a terrible job of refuting all of Nelson's bullshit. Nelson's crap sounds like it comes straight out of the mouth of an opposition propagandist, not a scholar, who should have carefully studied both sides of the story and looked at all the evidence.

His account of the coup doesn't pass the laugh test. He doesn't address any of the relevant evidence. And he even went so far as to try to claim that the elections in Venezuela are fraudulent. I mean, come on, even the most ardent opposition voices stopped making that ridiculous claim years ago when they realized that it has no basis.

Well, I don't agree. Sanchez dispeled a lot of Nelson's nonsense before Nelson even got on the air.

The problem is that Nelson spits out propaganda at a faster rate than any one person could respond to it all.

Yes, but even just pointing out that most of what Nelson was saying was propaganda would have been a good way to refute him without touching on every detail. But it seemed like Sanchez just sat quietly through an enourmous amount of bullshit and then didn't even respond to much of it when he got a chance to talk.

Either way, someone really needs to confront this Nelson liar and force him to respond to the evidence.

Even in the most sexually liberated and self-satisfied of nations, many people still yearn to burn more, to feel ready for bedding no matter what the clock says and to desire their partner of 23 years as much as they did when their love was brand new.
The market is saturated with books on how to revive a flagging libido or spice up monotonous sex, and sex therapists say “lack of desire” is one of the most common complaints they hear from patients, particularly women.
